Winter Haven is a beautiful lake-filled city in the heart of Florida. It is a growing community centrally located to all the major attractions and home to LEGOLAND USA. The Winter Haven SDA Church on Avenue K is the only constituent church for Winter Haven Adventist Academy; however, students come from five area SDA churches and the public, representing an ethnically diverse population. Warm and friendly, the church provides a supportive and caring atmosphere for growing young Christians and has maintained a small school for many years. Recent school growth has increased enrollment to about 65 students. The school has three classroom teachers in addition to the principal. Job Summary:
WHAA has an opening for a dedicated, caring, dynamic, and Christ-filled teaching principal for the upcoming school year (beginning July 1, 2026), whose responsibilities would include teaching grades 3-5. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for children and educational excellence. Applicants for this position must model Christ-like behavior and attitudes which will positively impact students in leading them to Christ. Candidates must have good classroom management skills and be able to deliver instruction to students on the indicated subjects or grade levels using a variety of teaching methods and activities. The selected employee will also be responsible for other school duties as may be assigned.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Applicant must be a tithe-paying Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing and have the legal right to work in the United States, providing evidence if employed. A minimum of a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) with North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification is required and must be maintained (or must agree to work towards obtaining NAD Certification). A minimum of five years of successful classroom and administrative experience is preferred. Must be a team player; have a service-oriented attitude; and be an effective communicator, possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills. The selected applicant must have the ability to positively engage and work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including students and families of diverse backgrounds regardless of language, ethnicity, race, or socioeconomic status. Possessing competent technology skills using current educational software and hardware is essential. Additional traits should include strong leadership and organizational skills, attention to detail, self-directed, and motivated. Absolute confidentiality is required. Curriculum familiarity, content knowledge, as well as knowledge of proficiency in instructional delivery are crucial. Most importantly, the applicant must possess a love for God, a love for working with children, and a desire to see each child in Heaven.

Job Responsibilities:
The principal/teacher will be expected to:
  1. Promote the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, ensuring that all subject matter is taught from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective based on curriculum guidelines and requirements of the North American Division, Southern Union Conference, and Florida Conference.
  2. Fulfill all the duties of a principal.
  3. Work closely with the school treasurer to create and maintain a balanced yearly budget.
  4. Supervise the teaching and support staff of approximately 12 people.
  5. Work closely with the school board chairperson to create monthly agendas.
  6. Be a member of the church board and give a monthly report.
  7. Develop weekly lesson plans and collect those from the teaching staff as required. Lesson plans are to include Objectives, Procedures and Evaluation for each learning style. Must also demonstrate evidence of lesson/unit planning and preparation that honors individual diversity and builds upon prior knowledge.
  8. Select resource material to support the subject matter that is academically and developmentally appropriate for diverse abilities and interests.
  9. Deliver engaging and effective instruction to students, employ a variety of teaching techniques and activities appropriate to student learning styles and subject matter, stimulate critical and creative thinking, and monitor student understanding.
  10. Use a variety of evaluation techniques to provide feedback and communicate progress, providing opportunities for students to learn from mistakes as well as successes.
  11. Utilize appropriate classroom management routines that facilitate student engagement and continuity.
  12. Provide for individual differences through diagnostic and prescriptive teaching.
  13. Communicate challenging expectations that encompass critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving skills.
  14. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and development, allowing sufficient time for academic activities.
  15. Utilize effective behavior management techniques which promote self-discipline.
  16. Systematically involve all students in the instructional process and encourage intellectual risk taking.
  17. Maintain accurate and organized student class records (attendance, grades, etc.) on the school's Student Information System in compliance with administration.
  18. Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the school community to enhance the educational experience.
  19. Communicate with parents regularly, keeping them well-informed.
  20. Be willing to grow professionally.
