Job Summary:
Provides safe, efficient, and professional food and nutrition services for Forest Lake Education Center's students through day-to-day operations, program compliance and review of daily food service operations. Supervise staff to ensure there is support, collaboration, and teamwork. Work closely with the director in food preparation, food orders, and management. Support the direction in any area needed. Workdays are only when school is in session full day.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must speak, read, and write fluent English.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in school food service or at least 3-5 years’ experience on another school district or other institutional food service company such as a hospital, chain restaurant, theme park, or other approved company.
  • Successful completion Department of Health requirements for appropriate permits.
  • ServSafe certification is required.
  • Workdays are only when school is in session full day.
  • Extensive knowledge in the preparation of foods served in Child Nutrition Programs; of the use and care of all equipment utilized in the preparation of school meals; of all facets of operations management preferred; demonstrated leadership and management ability.
  • knowledge of computer systems; ability to apply principles of Food Service and daily sanitation; knowledge of applicable county, state and federal school food service regulations; ability to translate standards of Food and Nutrition excellence into daily operations.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT: Institutional Food service equipment, use of a clover machine to collect payments, kitchen equipment, telephone, thermometer, computer, iPad, Printer, Copier, adding machine and calculator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Describes physical conditions of this position. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, lifting, grasping, washing trays and dishes etc. are required for this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Conditions the worker will be subject to in this position. Indoors and occasional outdoors: The employee is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities will mostly occur inside and occasionally outside.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manifests a professional code of ethics and values.
  • Models the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of program operations to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Ensures that menus are followed and are nutritionally adequate to meet United States Department of Agriculture guidelines.
  • Maintain a keen awareness of children that have allergies and food restrictions. Offers substitute items to children who may be allergic or have other dietary restrictions. Ensure food service area and food is free of nuts, nut products or food items that have been processed in a facility that also processes nut products according to the policies and procedures of the Forest City Adventist School and guidelines of Orange County Public School System. Checks all food labels upon receipt to ensure compliance with this requirement.

  • Procures all food and supplies necessary for food service operation.
  • Collaborate and job share in food prep, serving, cleaning, and any other responsibility assigned by management.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate production records, work schedules and mandatory federal and state reports to ensure accountability.
  • Problem solves any immediate concerns and provides input to the Director/Principal regarding unresolved issues, as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationships with Food and Nutrition Services’ staff, school officials, Orange County personnel, staff, and parents as necessary.
  • Attend training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position..
  • Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends, and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Essential Performance Responsibilities Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by School Principal.
