Forest Lake Education Center (FLEC) is a large pre-k through eighth-grade school located in Longwood, Florida, just 8 miles from downtown Orlando and very close to Forest Lake Academy. The school has an enrollment of over 670 students, with each grade having multiple teachers and classrooms. FLEC is actively pursuing certification through Marzano High Reliability Schools. They have completed Levels 1 & 2 certification and are pursuing Level 3 for the 2025-2026 school year. Job Summary:
FLEC has an opening for a seventh-grade English/Language Arts teacher for the coming school year. The ideal candidate is passionate about young people, takes an active role in improving student outcomes, and is willing to grow professionally and participate in Professional Learning Communities. The seventh-grade English/Language Arts teacher will guide students in their development of their love of reading and literature as well as assist the students in building their proficiency in being effective writers. The teacher will be enthusiastic about young people and willing to work with school administration and the seventh-grade team to create opportunities for the students to not only grow academically, but in their “love of God and service to others.” In addition, the teacher must be a team player and willing and able to work with the other seventh-grade teachers in managing a holistic program for the seventh-grade students. Responsibilities include teaching seventh-grade English/Language Arts, a seventh-grade homeroom, and shared seventh-grade management. Applicants for this position must model Christ-like behavior and attitudes which will positively impact students in leading them to Christ. She/He must be able to deliver instruction to students using a variety of teaching methods and activities. The selected employee may also be responsible for other school duties as may be assigned.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Applicant must be a tithe-paying Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing and have the legal right to work in the United States, providing evidence if employed. A minimum of a bachelor's degree with North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification is required and must be maintained (or must agree to work towards obtaining NAD Certification). A minimum of three years of successful classroom experience and a strength in English/Language Arts are preferred. Must be a team player; have a service-oriented attitude; be an effective communicator possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills; and be able to positively engage with students and families of diverse backgrounds, regardless of language, ethnicity, race, or socioeconomic status. Possessing competent technology skills using current educational software and hardware is essential. Additional traits should include organization, attention to detail, self-directed, and motivated. Absolute confidentiality is required. Curriculum familiarity, content knowledge, as well as knowledge of proficiency in instructional delivery are crucial. Most importantly, the applicant must possess a love for God, a love for working with children, and a desire to see each child in Heaven.

Job Responsibilities:
The teacher will be expected to:
  1. Promote the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, ensuring that all subject matter is taught from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective based on curriculum guidelines and requirements of the North American Division, Southern Union Conference, and Florida Conference.
  2. Develop and submit weekly lesson plans to the principal as required. Lesson plans are to include Objectives, Procedures and Evaluation for each learning style. Must also demonstrate evidence of lesson/unit planning and preparation that honors individual diversity and builds upon prior knowledge.
  3. Select resources to support the subject matter that is academically and developmentally appropriate for diverse abilities and interests.
  4. Deliver engaging and effective instruction to students, employ a variety of teaching techniques and activities appropriate to student learning styles and subject matter, stimulate critical and creative thinking, and monitor student understanding.
  5. Use a variety of evaluation techniques to provide feedback and communicate progress, providing opportunities for students to learn from mistakes as well as successes.
  6. Utilize appropriate classroom management routines that facilitate student engagement and continuity.
  7. Provide for individual differences through diagnostic and prescriptive teaching.
  8. Communicate challenging expectations that encompass critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving skills.
  9. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and development, allowing sufficient time for academic activities.
  10. Utilize effective behavior management techniques which promote self-discipline.
  11. Systematically involve all students in the instructional process and encourage intellectual risk taking.
  12. Maintain accurate and organized student class records (attendance, grades, etc.) on the school's Student Information System in compliance with administration.
  13. Communicate with parents regularly, keeping them well-informed.
  14. Be willing to grow professionally.
