Forest Lake Academy (FLA) is one of the largest Adventist high schools in the North American Division and is located in Apopka, Florida, just eight miles north of Orlando. The school offers grades 9-12 to about 425 students and is on the same property as Forest Lake Education Center, a pre-k-8th grade school with nearly 700 students. Numerous AdventHealth Hospitals and the Adventist Health System headquarters as well as all of the attractions in Orlando, including the Disney and Universal theme parks and the beach, are only a short distance away from FLA. Job Summary:
FLA has an opening for a full-time English teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The school is seeking an innovative teacher to help guide students to strengthen their reading, writing, and communication skills while developing a personal relationship with Jesus. The ideal candidate will be passionate about young people and willing to work with the school administration and the other English teachers to create opportunities for the students to learn and develop their critical thinking skills. The primary responsibilities will be teaching up to six classes, including World Literature, Honors World Literature, and Acting; supervision; sponsorships; and other duties as determined by the administration. In addition, the teacher must be a team player and be willing and able to work with the other high school teachers in managing a holistic program for high schoolers. Applicants for this position must model Christ-like behavior and attitudes that will positively impact students in leading them to Christ. She/He must be able to deliver instruction to students using a variety of teaching methods and activities.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Applicant must be a tithe-paying Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing and have the legal right to work in the United States, providing evidence if employed. A minimum of a bachelor's degree with North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification in English is required and must be maintained (or must agree to work towards obtaining NAD Certification). A minimum of three years of successful classroom experience is preferred. Must have a service-oriented attitude; be an effective communicator possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills; and be able to positively engage with students and families of diverse backgrounds, regardless of language, ethnicity, race, or socioeconomic status. Possessing competent technology skills using current educational software and hardware is essential. Additional traits should include organization, attention to detail, being self-directed, and being motivated. Absolute confidentiality is required. Curriculum familiarity, content knowledge, and proficiency in instructional delivery are crucial. Most importantly, the applicant must possess a love for God, a love for working with children, and a desire to see each child in Heaven.

Job Responsibilities:
The teacher will be expected to:
  1. Promote the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, ensuring that all subject matter is taught from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective based on curriculum guidelines and requirements of the North American Division, Southern Union Conference, and Florida Conference
  2. Establish and maintain a Christian atmosphere within the classroom and campus; Conduct a short devotional and have prayer at the beginning of each class
  3. Have competent knowledge of prescribed curriculums in the subject areas indicated
  4. Develop and submit weekly lesson plans to the principal as required; Lesson plans are to include Objectives, Procedures, and Evaluation for each learning style; Must also demonstrate evidence of lesson/unit planning and preparation that honors individual diversity and builds upon prior knowledge
  5. Develop long-term yearly/semesterly/quarterly plans and goals for each subject
  6. Select resources to support the subject matter that is academically and developmentally appropriate for diverse abilities and interests
  7. Deliver engaging and effective instruction to students, employ a variety of teaching techniques and activities appropriate to student learning styles and subject matter, stimulate critical and creative thinking, and monitor student understanding
  8. Effectively integrate technology into the classroom
  9. Use a variety of evaluation techniques to provide feedback and communicate progress, providing opportunities for students to learn from mistakes as well as successes
  10. Utilize appropriate classroom management routines that facilitate student engagement and continuity
  11. Provide for individual differences through diagnostic and prescriptive teaching
  12. Communicate challenging expectations that encompass critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving skills
  13. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports and is conducive to student learning, allowing sufficient time for academic activities
  14. Utilize effective behavior management techniques which promote self-discipline
  15. Systematically involve all students in the instructional process and encourage intellectual risk taking
  16. Maintain accurate and organized student class records (attendance, grades, etc.) on the school's Student Information System (SIS) in compliance with administration
  17. Provide motivating, timely and constructive feedback to students and parents every week on the SIS
  18. Communicate with parents regularly, conducting parent/teacher conferences when necessary, keeping them well-informed
