Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
  • KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
    • Personal commitment to God.
    • Personal integrity, emotional stability, sound physical health, and an ability to work under stress.
    • Ability to effectively relate and consistently provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
    • Ability demonstrate leadership qualities and to earn respect of nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Displays a high skill level completing tasks and communicating using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
    • Master of Divinity, Master of Science in Spiritual Care or other related graduate level degree (min 72 credit hours) in theology, or religion.
    • Minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education accredited by Association for Clinical Pastoral Education
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
    • Congregational pastoral experience
    • CPE Residency accredited by Association for Clinical Pastoral Education
    • Leadership, Management or Business Studies
  • LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
    • Ordination/commissioning or Licensure as minister in good standing with the Seventh-day Adventist Church
    • Board Certification with the Association of Professional Chaplains
    • Endorsement by Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries

Job Responsibilities:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Chaplain Manager is a clinically trained, experienced chaplain serving as partner with the CEO as the spiritual leader responsible for ensuring effective spiritual care to our primary customers, partners, and team members.

The Chaplain Manager participates as a member of the facility leadership team, and the healthcare team by evaluating spiritual needs provides one to one, short-term spiritual support to patients, families, and care team members in their facility. Like staff chaplains, the Chaplain Manager also provides supportive brief spiritual counsel and community referrals, following a comprehensive spiritual wholeness assessment of concerns.

The Chaplain Manager leads the spiritual care team and is responsible for scheduling chaplain resources to provide for the care of the facility 24/7/365, reporting to Mission and Ministry Director/Exec. Dir. The Chaplain Manager also builds and nurtures relationships with community clergy, collaborates with Certified Educators, and other leaders who participate in direct spiritual care in the facility.

The Chaplain Manager fosters a sense of mission that enhances a culture of Love, experience of Joy, and a sense of Peace within the hospital and among the healthcare team. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth’s service standards of Keep me Safe, Love Me, Make It Easy and Own it.
    • Engage the Consumer
      • Respond to inpatient referrals within 24 hours
      • Respond to outpatient referrals within 48 hours
      • Participate in evening and weekend chaplaincy care for inpatient and outpatient referrals
      • Address complaints or concerns, providing service recovery and seeking resolution when possible Improve
    • People Systems
      • Participate in Leadership Spiritual Formation
      • Lead Clinical Team Spiritual Formation
      • Participate in “Mission-Fit” hiring assessment for campus leaders
      • Participate in New-Employee Orientation
      • Provide Spiritual Support for Campus/Entity Leadership
      • Work directly with AdventHealth and FL Conference HR in evaluating and facilitating potential Staff and PRN Chaplains Improve the Product (patient experience)
    • Participate in:
      • 24/7/365 in person care for spiritual wholeness concerns in assigned setting
      • Spiritual care for acute crises including end of life care, difficult diagnoses, decedent care, family crises, pre-surgical support, etc.
      • Addressing concerns at time of care transition as referred
      • Coordination of appropriate spiritual support for patient care
      • Coordinate with Mission and Ministry Campus Liaisons
      • Volunteer training (initial and continuing education) and service participation
      • Providing spiritual/mission resources for team members, patients and their families
      • Leading in development/Implementation of MIPR and Christian Service Plan – address recommendations -
      • Exhibits knowledge of the levels of growth, development, and skills for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
      • Collaborate with Certified Educators by providing feedback on student’s progressive competence and clinical curriculum experiences Expand the Network
      • Welcome and partner in care with community clergy who are providing spiritual care for - congregants in the inpatient setting
      • Lead educational events, workshops and conferences with community clergy, local congregations, - community events- Lower the Cost
      • Whole person care concerns for patients are addressed
      • Team members experience support and whole person care through increased availability of care Manage Risk -
      • Respond to patient/team member whole person care concerns in a timely way
      • Participate in Ethics Consults and Family meetings
      • Chart all care – accurately and in a timely way
      • Conduct regular oversight of performance of staff chaplains, PRN/TN Chaplains and other Spiritual Care staff in the facility as appropriate, addressing areas of improvement and documenting progressive discipline corrective plans consistently.
