West Coast Christian Academy is located on the beautiful Gulf coast of Florida, just south of Tampa Bay in the Bradenton/Sarasota area, near the beautiful beaches of Anna Maria Island and Siesta Key. The school offers a Christ-centered Adventist education to an enrollment of nearly 60 students in grades pre-k through twelfth grade. The school's pre-k program is a part of the Florida Voluntary pre-k program for four-year-olds, and the high school program is a satellite/distance learning program through Atlanta Adventist Academy. WCCA may be the oldest continually operating SDA school in the Florida Conference, having been established in 1892. Job Summary:
WCCA is seeking an experienced teaching-principal who would teach middle grades (6-8). The school has a supportive school board and church family who are praying to find a leader with the skills to grow the school and implement the foundational school philosophy, adhering to God's blueprint for true education. They are looking for someone who is a team player, creative, and who loves children. Applicants for this position must model Christ-like behavior and attitudes which will positively impact students in leading them to Christ. She/He must be able to deliver instruction to students on the indicated subjects or grade levels using a variety of teaching methods and activities. The selected employee will also be responsible for other school duties as may be assigned.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Applicants must be a tithe-paying Seventh-day Adventist church members in good standing and have the legal right to work in the United States, providing evidence if employed. North American Division (Denominational) Teacher Certification with a minimum of a bachelor's degree is required and must be maintained (or must agree to work towards obtaining NAD Certification). Successful classroom and administrative experience is preferred. Must have a service-oriented attitude, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work with students and families of diverse backgrounds. Possessing competent technology skills using current educational software and hardware is essential. Additional traits should include organization, attention to detail, self-directed, and motivated. Absolute confidentiality is required. Curriculum familiarity, content knowledge, as well as proficient instructional delivery are crucial. Most importantly, the applicant must possess a love for God, a love for working with children, and a desire to see each child in Heaven.

Job Responsibilities:
The principal/teacher will be expected to:
  1. Promote the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, ensuring that all subject matter is taught from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective based on curriculum guidelines and requirements of the North American Division, Southern Union Conference, and Florida Conference.
  2. Manage the educational program at the school.
  3. Develop weekly lesson plans as required by policy, as well as collect and review lesson plans from the entire teaching staff. Lesson plans are to include Objectives, Procedures and Evaluation for each learning style. Must also demonstrate evidence of lesson/unit planning and preparation that honors individual diversity and builds upon prior knowledge.
  4. Ensure that all subject matter that is academically and developmentally appropriate for diverse abilities and interests in all classrooms.
  5. Employ and support staff in using a variety of teaching techniques and activities appropriate to student learning styles and subject matter, stimulate critical and creative thinking, and monitor student understanding.
  6. Employ and support staff in using a variety of evaluation techniques to provide feedback and communicate progress, providing opportunities for students to learn from mistakes as well as successes.
  7. Utilize appropriate classroom and school management routines that facilitate student engagement and continuity.
  8. Provide for individual differences through diagnostic and prescriptive teaching and development of union MAEP plan.
  9. Communicate challenging expectations that encompass critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving skills.
  10. Maintain a classroom climate conducive to student learning, allowing sufficient time for academic activities.
  11. Utilize effective behavior management techniques which promote self-discipline.
  12. Systematically involve all students in the instructional process and encourage intellectual risk taking.
  13. Maintain accurate and organized student class records (attendance, grades, etc.) on the school's Student Information System in compliance with conference standards.
  14. Communicate with parents regularly, keeping them well-informed.
  15. Communicate effectively in challenging situations that may arise between different stakeholders.
