Building Maintenance Technician

Camp Kulaqua is a Christian Retreat and Conference Center, as well as a dynamic Youth Camp, located on 700 plus acres surrounding the Hornsby Spring in High Springs, Florida. 

Job Summary:
Represent Camp Kulaqua's Building Maintenance Department to guests, staff, and vendors through professional communications and actions. Maintain and repair Camp Kulaqua structures in order to provide guests with safe, presentable, and comfortable facilities, according to accepted construction practices/codes.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

Education:

  • Required - High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Required - 2 -3 years of experience in two or more construction-related trades
  • Required - Certificates and licenses relevant to work experience
  • Preferred - Bilingual

  • Knowledge
  • Knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and Camp Kulaqua.
  • Knowledge of acceptable residential AND commercial construction practices.
  • Possess working knowledge of building systems (e.g. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, flooring, finishing).
  • Skills

  • Ability to clearly communicate (verbal and written) in English with guests, co workers and management.
  • Possess organizational skills in both task and time management.
  • Possess the skills to perform assigned work orders relating to the building systems that applicant is experienced in.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Perform work in a clean and thorough manner.
  • Abilities

  • Job Responsibilities:
  • Uphold the standards and policies of the Florida Conference of SDA’s and Camp Kulaqua.
  • Present a neat, clean and professional personal appearance.
  • Wear/maintain/clean personal work uniform.
  • Use/maintain assigned radio, key(s) and vehicle.
  • Attend all staff meetings and staff training (when applicable).
  • Follow department procedures for removing stock items from inventory.
  • Follow department procedures for completing work orders/assigned work.
  • Safely operate Camp Kulaqua equipment (e.g. golf carts, truck, tractor, lifts).
  • Work safely off the ground on roofs and from aerial platforms: ladders, scaffolding, lifts, etc.
  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule. Examples of this are: evenings, weekends and on-call duty.
  • Provide work coverage for Building Maintenance Director when necessary.
  • Be willing to work in other Departments as needed, with supervisor’s approval.

  • Physical Requirements: This position is physically demanding [e.g. bending, lifting (infrequently exceeding 100 lbs.)], kneeling, carrying, climbing ladders, pushing, digging, etc.). It includes performing many repetitious tasks relating to maintenance work and the size/type of facilities at Camp Kulaqua. Due to the nature of activities and setup provided to guests, strenuous tasks are part of daily duties.

    Working Conditions: Assigned work duties cover both interior and exterior responsibilities. Therefore, work is performed in all types of climate conditions (climate controlled to inclement weather). Technicians are expected to be prepared and able to work in all-weather situations.

    Mental/Emotional Requirements: Must be able to work in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented environment; to perform duties under pressure and to complete assigned work in a timely manner; to work as part of a team as well as to complete assignments independently; to take instructions from supervisors; to exercise problem-solving skills; and to interact with co-workers, supervisors, guests and the public in a Christ-like, professional and pleasant manner. Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with guests, Kulaqua staff, and contracted labor on a daily basis. Must remain calm under pressure and exhibit courtesy, diplomacy and kindness, both in person and through other communication avenues.
