Job Summary:
The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing lesson plans, incorporating all components plans, and leading children. Assist in coordinating and conducting developmental screenings, health services, and may involve family services. The teacher is responsible to make sure that their classroom program remains in compliance by keeping appropriate records, providing paperwork to the Director or appropriate entities, attending meetings, and securing resources or materials from the administration that will assist in maintaining a positive, safe, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. The teacher is to report to the Director or appropriate administrator depending on the nature of needs.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
  • Prior experience in Child Care and Early Childhood required.
  • Must have 40-clock-hour Introductory Child Care Training comprised of Part I and Part II courses as required by the Florida Department of Children and Families. At least 1 year experienced preferred working with children in an education or day care setting.
  • Must complete 5-clock-hours in Early Literacy and Language Development, within 1 year of employment.
  • Must complete 20-clock-hours of annual in-service training between July 1st and June 30th each year. 
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • An Early Childhood Professional Credential or Birth through Five Florida Child Care Professional Credential (formaly known as CDAE) is preferred.
  • State of Florida and National (FBI) background check clearance, including VECHS fingerprinting.
  • Mush have effective communication and strong organization skills. 
  • Be a faithful, practicing member of the seventh-day Adventist Church whose life, habits, and influence are positive in leading students to Christ. The teacher needs to be a Seventh-day Adventist with expertise, formal education, and experience in early childhood education or child development in accordance with state licensing and accreditation requirements.
  •  Three years full-time teaching experience with young children is recommended.
  •  The Teacher must meet state requirements, obtain, and maintain staff credentials for school based VPK programs prior to employment.
  • Effective communicator, team player, interacts well with all regardless of language, ethnic, race or social-economic backgrounds

Job Responsibilities:
  • Teaching responsibilities:
    • Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behavior management techniques
    • Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, age-appropriate activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning and promote each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development
    • Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children in the overall operation of the program; maintains regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers
    • Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents
    • Shares responsible for maintaining program equipment in good repair, assists with toy/equipment disinfecting
    • Responsible for the constant supervision, safety, and well-being of the children
    • Integrates the teachings and principles of the Seventh-day Adventist Church as well as the Bible throughout the curriculum, the daily activities, instructional practices, and interactions
    • Observes and records relevant information on each child’s progress as required
    • Attends and participates actively in all program/center, parental or other meetings as required
    • Ensures the program always operates in compliance with all accreditation standards Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory training
    • Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized clutter-free condition
