Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant works with all aspects of Accounts Receivable, assists with Student Accounts and together with the Student Services Accountant and Business Manager ensures that the Financial Statements are accurate, transparent, and timely. The Senior Accountant will keep and maintain record management of contracts and agreements, invoice customers, including student payroll, taxes, agency funds and work with the business office staff and students Business Manage and Leadership Team, to accomplish the objectives of Forest Lake Academy (FLA).Authority as delegated by the Business Manager, Responsible for performing the duties of the Accountant in cooperation with the Business Manager and in accordance with the working policies of the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the North American Division and their objectives.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in accounting. Appropriate successful work experience may be acceptable in lieu of scholastic requirements.
  • (Two) or more years applicable experience in field are needed to gain the skills and knowledge required to perform job duties.
  • Knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the Florida Conference and the Seventh day Adventist Church.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate (verbal and written) in English with vendors, co workers, visitors and management.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge and proven skills in office procedures and equipment such as computer software (e.g., Word for Windows or Excel spreadsheets), data entry, filing, telephone techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks with high accuracy and acceptable speed.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform all job duties with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with many interruptions.
  • Ability to foster communication among departmental staff, employees from other departments and outside personnel.
  • Must be able to read, speak and hear.
  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, carrying of light items (up to 10 lbs.), etc. required; occasional lifting/moving of items up to (50) lbs. may occur.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud FXNXT desirable.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the work of Student Workers assigned to the Senior Accountant in accordance with their job descriptions. Assist in the creation and maintenance of Student Worker job descriptions. Assist, as necessary, in monitoring and guiding Student Workers in the Business Office.
  • Supervise the Accounts Receivable processes for FLA financial records – which includes record maintenance of the contracts, services provided, and customer payments received. Generate timely customer billing and reconciliations of Accounts Receivable and Tuition Management.
  • Supervise the processes relating to Student payroll such as the timely receipt and processing of time cards, issuing of checks and credits, recording and invoicing the appropriate accounts and entities, and processing payroll taxes and reports.
  • Supervise the processes relating to Staff Payroll such as the timely inclusion of receivables (i.e. rent and utilities), receipt and processing of time cards, reporting Staff Payroll details to the Florida Conference and recording and invoicing the appropriate accounts and entities.
  • Review and initiate customer and vendor contracts. Report to the Business Manager on contracts that are reaching maturity and/or due for renewal.
  • Assist in processing student financial registrations (i.e. Student Tuition Contracts).
  • Assist in monitoring inventory and equipment lists as directed by the Business Manager.
  • Assist in maintaining Plant Fund records as directed by the Business Manager.
  • Carry out duties as assigned by the Business Manager.
  • Serve on the Student Aid and Student Employment Committee.
  • Represent FLA as requested by the Business Manager.
