Aquatic Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

Performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of River Ranch waterpark and Hornsby spring; including recirculation / filtration systems, chemical feeding systems and related.  Controls and monitors water chemistry of pools, ensuring all health code standards and regulations are maintained.  Position is responsible for maintaining appearance and cleanliness of swimming facilities and related equipment.  Duties also include maintenance of janitorial / chemical supplies, chemical test kits and other related equipment.  Performs related work as directed.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor and is reviewed through direct observation of results achieved, reports and conferences.

Work may require performance of tasks during extreme heat/cold or other extreme weather conditions.  Tasks require exposure to chemicals and cleaning agents and exposure to excessive odors, wetness, sunlight and humidity.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, materials, and tools utilized in the repair and service of pumps, chlorinators, and various mechanical and pool equipment
  • Knowledge of basic electrical theory used to repair and maintain equipment
  • Knowledge of procedures, tools and equipment utilized in the construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of swimming pools and related facilities and equipment
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety and health requirements for aquatic facilities and safety rules and regulations
  • Skilled in swimming and scuba diving
  • Skilled in operation and maintenance of swimming pools
  • Ability to read and understand equipment and/or maintenance manuals, mechanical drawings, work orders, blue prints, forms, etc.  Ability to keep records, prepare reports and write work orders and bid specifications
  • Ability to make mathematical computations; add, subtract, multiply and divide; calculate decimals and percentages; interpret graphs; perform calculations involving formulas; take measurements of length, width, volume, etc
  • Ability to train and instruct other personnel; record and deliver information; explain procedures.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying moderate to heavy (20-100+ pounds) items
  • Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of colors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED. 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

      Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

      Must be willing to obtain State of Florida Commercial Pool Operators License

      Willing to become certified Red Cross Lifeguard.

 


Job Responsibilities:
  • Tests and adjusts water chemistry to meet established health code standards and regulations for oxidation and sanitation, adding chemicals as required
  • Inspects and performs regular testing of swimming pool facilities and supporting equipment, such as chlorinators, chemical feeders, gauges, flow meters, valves, filtering systems, automated control systems, aeration systems, pumps and motors, etc. in order to identify potential operational problems and ensure operational efficiency
  • Makes repairs, adjustments and/or makes necessary calls/work orders to correct problems
  • Operates and maintains filtration systems, including Hi-Rate Sand Filter System.  Backwashes filters as needed
  • Inspects and assures cleanliness and appearance of the general pool area.  Cleans pools, decks and pump rooms by routine vacuuming brushing and scrubbing, according to established maintenance schedule.  Maintains locker rooms, restrooms, showers, and pool decks to prevent health or accident hazards to users
  • Provides technical assistance in the development of maintenance procedures and schedules for swimming facilities and related equipment
  • Operates and maintains pool vacuums, power washers, gas or electric blowers, etc. in order to maintain cleanliness of facilities
  • Maintains and cleans facility equipment, including diving boards, ladders, guard chairs, water slides, etc
  • Maintains and monitors chemical supplies and inventories; develops and maintains an inventory of tools and parts for pool equipment
  • Performs preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, chlorinators, filter systems, piping, chemical feeders, valves, hair and lint strainers, skimmers, flow meters, etc. and control switches of each system
  • Performs general repairs on pool walls, lighting, tile, adjacent areas and related equipment
  • Maintains grounds by doing necessary landscaping duties as needed
